Open rhinoplasty surgery is a rhinoplasty surgery that is performed with an incision made under the tip of the nose, from a point close to the lip of the structure called “columella” located between the two nostrils. It is often preferred in secondary or revision cases.

Before Open Rhinoplasty
A detailed consultation with the patient is required before open rhinoplasty. Can be benefited from various simulations. Patients who are planned for open rhinoplasty should definitely inform their physician about the medicines and herbal products used before the surgery.
During Open Rhinoplasty
Open rhinoplasty is an operation that takes approximately 2-3 hours under general anesthesia. During the surgery, the nasal bone and cartilage are shaped and it is coated with a skin cover. Placing a tampon or plaster during the operation is the own preference of the surgeon.
In open rhinoplasty, the sutures placed on the columella, where the incision is made, are sometimes removed after 5-7 days, however dissolving sutures may also be preferred.
After Open Rhinoplasty
After open rhinoplasty, 1 night hospitalization is usually recommended. If a tampon or plaster is placed, it can be removed or replaced after 3-7 days. Patients are advised to rest for 5-7 days.
Depending on the technique and the patient, edema and bruising are normal for 1-2 weeks. After open rhinoplasty surgery, it is necessary to wait at least 6 months, ideally 1 year, for the shape of the nose to fully settle.
